Spherical aromaticity of fullerenes
WebMay 1, 2024 · Herein, we revealed the presence of a related long-range shielding cone in spherical aromatic species that was demonstrated through C 20, C 32, C 50, and C 60 Hirsh aromatic fullerenes. It was found that while for planar aromatics, the cone is reserved only for a perpendicularly applied field, for spherical aromatic compounds, the three ... WebThe fullerenes, particularly the highly symmetrical C 60 sphere, have a beauty and elegance that excites the imagination of scientists and nonscientists alike, as they bridge aesthetic gaps between the sciences, …

WebIt is notable that 2D-aromatic-in-3D macrocyclic cages can be aromatic with tethers of different lengths, i.e., with π-electron counts different from 6 n + 2, and they are related to naphthalene. Finally, we identify tetrahedral and cubic π-conjugated molecules that fulfill the 6 n + 2 rule and exhibit significant electron delocalization. WebMatching polynomial and its zeros for the molecular graph of C70 are reported. Topological resonance energy (TRE) is calculated and compared with that reported for C60, and with the values obtained by conjugated circuits model. TRE values indicate slightly greater stability of C70, in agreement with recent experimental results.
WebThe magic 6π/6σ double aromaticity underlies the stability of the [B7]3− molecular wheel, following the (4n + 2) Hückel rule. The tetrahedral Na4 ligand in the sandwich has a [Na4]2+ charge-state, which is the simplest example of three-dimensional aromaticity, spherical aromaticity, or superatom. WebJul 9, 2024 · The discovery of fullerenes by H.W. Kroto, R.E. Smalley, R. Curl, and co-workers in 1985 3 introduced the so-called spherical aromaticity, a new type of 3D aromaticity that requires electron delocalization in close 3D circuits.. As previously mentioned, Hirsch’s equation, 2(n + 1) 2, deduced in a noble gas converts into a rule for spherical aromaticity …
